Western Carriers (India) Limited announced the inauguration of its General Cargo Terminal at Kolkata Dock System, marking its first operational base in Eastern India and expanding its rail-linked logistics network across the East-West freight corridor. The terminal, developed under a 15-year agreement with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority, is designed to handle containers and bulk cargo with an initial investment of approximately ₹13.68 crore for Phase I civil works. Located within Kolkata's port infrastructure and connected to Eastern Railway, it strengthens WCIL's multimodal capabilities and aligns with India's National Logistics Policy and Sagarmala initiatives. The company expects Phase II development to commence within 90 days to enhance throughput capacity.
